Henry's bio:
Henry is an Aboriginal brother in his forties, who currently lives in Perth, Western Australia. Henry was taken away from his parents as a child in the 1960s. He is a part of the ‘Stolen Generation’, a generation of Aborigines in Australia who were taken away from their parents and put in institutions to learn the "White Way". At one stage Henry was put in an institution in New Norcia, where he was looked after in a ‘Mission’ (New Norcia is a small town about 150 kilometres away from Perth, in Western Australia).
Other siblings from Henry's family were also taken away. Thankfully, in recent times, Henry has been reunited with his brothers and sisters. Henry started drinking alcohol at age 11, and when he was 15 he moved to Perth with his uncles. Once in Perth, he fell into drugs.
A turning point in Henry’s life was when his cousin was about to be hit by a car. Henry jumped in front of the car to save her life, pushing her out of the way. His cousin survived, but Henry took the full impact of the car, being rammed into a telephone pole. He had blood coming out of his ears in the ambulance, and then he was in a coma for a week. There was enough metal in Henry’s leg to start a bicycle shop. The doctors doubted that Henry would survive, and if he did, he would be a 'vegetable'.
Amazingly, Henry came out of the coma alive. Henry is now in full working order, and has a smile like no other. After the accident Henry became a Christian, and from there he gave up his past life of drugs and alcohol. He’d always played the guitar, but he was never able to write any songs. When he became a Christian, songs just flowed out of him like gushing water. His song count has toppled the 200 barrier, many of which haven’t yet been recorded.
Joe's autobio:
I grew up in a Christian home and had to go to church every Sunday. I despised church, being bored sick just about every Sunday, especially of the singing. At the age of 8, I was heavily into soccer and Australian Rules Football, being quite talented in this area, but then things got bad. When I was 9 years old I got diagnosed with a hip problem, called 'pertheys disease'. This a growing condition and involves the hip joint and socket. This put me in hospital for a week, and when I got out I had to walk on crutches for a year.
When I was ten years old, I walked with a slight limp but was starting to recover from my condition. Whilst playing soccer, I clashed with someone from the other team and spiral fractured my leg and saw my knee cap pop out to the side (I didn't realise this initially, my teacher thought I was being a wimp). This put me in hospital for 7 weeks. God really used it though because the spiral fracture lengthened my leg and destroyed the limp.
Then I recovered from all my hospital visits and just started to live solely for myself. I was quite popular at school and would go out with a girl here and there. I spent a lot of money on my Nintendo, too. I didn't really care about anyone else, I was only trying to satisfy myself with what the world said was great.
Anyway, at the end of Year 9, at 14 years of age, I was watching a video on Creation, called 'The Age Of The Earth' (by Kent Hovind). God convicted me greatly through this video. I realised that I didn't know whether I was going to Heaven or Hell, but as Kent Hovind stated, "You could die tonight. Have you seen the way they drive around here?" So I went into my room and uttered the words, "Lord, come into my life and save me and change me." And from there I started to confess a lot of the sin that I had committed.
Then I started to realise that the only thing that would satisfy me was God's love, care, peace, and fellowship with other members of His Family. I started to realise that money, soccer, football, girls, and nintendos were false things that the Devil offered me, trying to con me into thinking that they would give me complete fulfilment. I started to realise that there was nothing wrong with these things in themselves, but rather, they had control over me and were ruling my life. I came to realise that God has created these things for us to enjoy, but He MUST come first in my life. Now I'm at peace that He'll get me a wife. I'm at peace about enjoying the odd kick of the footy, or playing the odd computer game. I'm not afraid of money, but rather, I'm at peace that the Lord will provide.
God showed me something else, something amazing, and I will never turn back to my past life of serving myself, now I'm living it for God.
