Bio:
I'm just an washed up old musician trying to hang on by my fingernails. Can't see, hear, or play much any more, but I just can't seem to give it up.
I've been playing guitar since 1962 when a friend showed me how to play a few chords while I was in the Air Force. Over the years since then, I've also learned to play Bass, Drums, and Keyboards some and I've played in Country Bands, Rock Bands, Garage Bands, a Single Act, and a Duet. I've had a home recording studio of some kind or another since about 1987.
I live in western Arkansas and I am retired from work, music and life in general. Just kickin' back waiting for the Grim Reaper to pay me a call.
OK, there's all the info on me, now it's time for you to let me know what you think of my music. If you like it, let me know. If you don't like it, let me know that to, but please try to let me know why you don't like it so maybe I can make it better the next time. (and don't be shy, you won't hurt my feeling with the truth)
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy my music, as well as all the rest of the great music you'll find here on MacJams..
NOTE: Even though I have most of my music listed as "no derivatives" I will allow others to use my music. If you want to use a song of mine in a non commercial way on MacJams, please drop me a line.
Here's a picture of my little studio. I've made some improvements recently and now it's a lot easier to get things done, mostly because of the new iMac and the new studio desk.

Thanks, Ed

Music Background
I've played in several bands in the past, none of which anyone has ever heard of, or heard from. I've also run my own small studio for a time doing some commercial work, but mostly for song writing and demo's of my own stuff and for my own pleasure. Haven't worked in music since 1994, but I still have the bug. A lot of my early music had rhythm tracks I sequenced on a Yamaha SY99 Synth/Sequencer, with some of it fine tuned later on in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. Most of the Country songs were originally recorded on a Tascam TSR-8 Analog 8-track back in the 1990's using outboard processing gear. I no longer have the 8-track since I've brought my stuff over to the Mac so I can redo most of them.
Music Skills
I play guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards but none of them very well anymore. I also sing (rather badly) and do harmonies (again, rather badly) I've been known to try playing the harmonica as an act of desperation, (couldn't find anyone else to do it), as well as a tambourine, shakers, and other such rhythm instruments.
Music Hardware
My main studio computer is a late 2007 Aluminum 20" iMac 2.0g core 2 duo running an external monitor along with the iMac's screen to give me a better picture of the work. I use a Tascam FW-1804 firewire Audio & Midi interface for getting into and out of the iMac.For traveling I use a white MacBook 13" 2.4Ghz laptop when I need to take my music on the road or collaborate with others musicians in person. I just recently bought a Tascam FireOne firewire interface to use with the MacBook. It works great as an Audio & Midi interface, but the control surfaces it has don't seem to work with Logic Express, I've called Tascam tech support and they're looking in to it as we speak. Hopefully they have a fix for it soon, because it is supposed to work.
I still have the Yamaha SY99 and some outboard processing gear to do MIDI programming as well as the for the exquisite sounds in the SY99. I also have, and occasionally use, a Roland U-110, Kawai K1m and Edirol SC88vl Sound Canvas as sound modules. Mixing all the midi device audio voices is done by a TOA D3 rack mounted sub mixer to get it into the FW1804 and still have audio inputs for other things.
For guitars, I have a 1985 Takamine GX200 solid body electric with Humbuckers, an Ibanez RX40 copy of a strat with switched single or dual pole pickups, a Peavey Generation EXP and a Fender F35 acoustic. I also have a Yamaha RBX-800A Bass that I use to certain tracks.
These are played through a Laney HCM65R Amp and mic'd with an Electro-Voice ND257B, or directly into the FW-1804 using a TubeWorks Real Tube overdrive unit as a preamp. Sometimes I'll just go straight into the FW-1804's Guitar preamp input. I also have an MXR-Phase 90 and a Danelectro FabTone stomp box for effects.
For mics I have 2 Electro-Voice ND257B dynamics, an Audio-Technica AT4033a large diaphragm condenser, a Tascam PE-125 condenser, an old Electro-Voice 951 Crystal dynamic, as well as several other inexpensive Radio Shack and Shure mics.
Monitoring the final mix is done through an Onkyo Stereo amp using a set of JBL 4206 near field monitors on the B output or a set of Realistic Minimus 7 monitors on the A output depending on what sound I'm listening for. Most of the time I'll use both speakers systems mixed together to get better idea what the track really sounds like. Sometimes I'll jump back and forth between the 2 speaker types and to make sure the mix works in different environments. I also check the final mix on a set of computer speakers with a subwoofer, and on the car stereo just to be sure the mix works there too. But then again, sometimes when I'm lazy I don't.
Final mix and mastering is usually done on the iMac in Logic Express, but can also be done using Cubase SE3. Archiving is done to either a Fostex D-5 DAT Digital Master Recorder, or a Technics SVDA10 DAT recorder.
Music Software
For the iMac and MacBook I use Apple's Logic Express 8 or Garage Band as my main recording software and Cubase SE3 as an alternate, when I want to do something I haven't figured out how to do in Logic yet, or can't do at all in Garage Band.I am so glad I finally ditched the Windows platform and went to the Mac. Now I get to do my music, instead of having to figure out why I'm not able to do my music. I got tired of the constant problems with the Windows operating systems, all of them.
I sometimes use GB to play around with sounds and arrangements, and for mixing down the masters. Since I've started using Logic Express 8 I've been doing quite a bit more mastering on it, now that I'm getting somewhat comfortable with it. But since I'm more used to doing background tracks in MIDI and playing live audio tracks into a DAW I don't feel completely comfortable using loops for production just yet. However, that is changing as time goes by and I get more used to the way the Mac does things. I can see where the loops provide a convenient way to put together scratch tracks for song creation.
