Started 1st garage (literally) *band* at age of 13/14 after spending a couple of years playing with electronic musical gadgets (e.g. Casio VL Tone made *famous* by Kraftwerk)
First proper synth was a Roland SH 101 which I still use to this day. Purchased a Yamaha CX 5 music computer, then Boss Dr Rhythm and Roland TR626 drum machines.
Got a Fostex 160 4 track Multitracker for 21st birthday (thnx Mum & Dad).
Along came *Midi* - nice.
Next up was an Ensoniq EPS sampler 1991. Fascinating in what £1000 could buy you in sampling terms at that time.....
In sampling terms, with hindsight, this was during the conception of sharing samples. To your average keyboard player, the cutting edge then was the Fairlight CMI but at £20,000, was way out of reach unless you were a signed artist.
Played in a number of bands from 1984 - 2001.
Roland VS880 Digital Workstation purchased 1999.
After getting my first PC in 2001, this was my introduction to a whole new Chapter. Got involved in recording other bands ("n" of two) but didn't have the time to make a mark so when I could, I still pottered about with my home set up.
My machines are warming up again though, thanks to the MacJams community:-
Found out about MJ's 30th July 2007 muchos Kudos to APB and as Ms. N Bedingfield would say the rest is still unwritten -
MJ's opens some old but more importantly, many new doors.
Kudos to Prof Lawrence Lessig & Co. at Creative Commons (CC) and SIMIG for making this new Chapter possible for those at MacJam's.
