Too Cool for Words? I think this is an amazing track! Vert phat sound. Nice. It reminds me of one of my favorite bands. I want some lyrics to drive this one home! Yup! Really great...does have that noir sound that Morphine used to get into, but a lot more energetic. I like the pulse in the background, it has that sort of stuttering ostinato that is very compelling. The harmonizing in the sax lines is very cool...Mindblowing! That is so cool! Beautiful piece Ilya! The entry of the saxes is worth the entry price alone!! That is so cool! Fantastic recording all round - you get such depth from the saxes (not to mention their perfect placement in the soundstage) that it's sometimes easy to ignore the excellent rhythm section. This is real mastery - I am very impressed! Just occasionally I want the drums to break into a more direct rhythm (and just as I'm thinking that, it changes). Hmmmm......! holy sax, batman! i've been wanting to move to new york for years and am really going to try and do it this year i think. so... wow! this definitely does capture the energy of the city and that feeling that something unexpected could (and probably will) happen soon. it's great! you've got a beautiful tone, too... a sexy airiness. the laid back way you kind of wander around melodies and notes actually reminds me of miles davis... like something off of miles in the sky in a way. and then that dreamland toy at the end - brilliant! urban atmosphere Ilya, it HAS been awhile! ;) Very nice return with this atmospheric rendition of Brooklyn. I can almost smell it! Effective build-up from the beginning. I heard quite a few "clicks" in this section, seemed to be at the beginning of GB regions....which I wasn't sure were intentional. However, I *DID* hear your signature Zippo lighter at one point! Your sax playing is great as always. I like the way you panned it on both sides. Nice echo effects. The material towards the end was an interesting contrast -- I wish I'd heard that sooner on this longish track. You have a unique way of creating a vivid atmosphere and mood in your pieces -- no-one else on this site does it quite like you. It makes for great, refreshing listening. So much to appreciate I love the driving rhythm, the changes, the sound of your horn, the alternating of the solo sax with the sax section, the use of the flute sound, the feel of the track, how the feeling changes but stays in the neighborhood, the solo section at the end of the piece, the tremendous command you have of your instrument... I could go on and on. There is nothing about this piece that isn't completely pro. Your music is on a very high level, Ilya, and we are lucky to have it offered to us this way. Glad to hear it again (the lighter). Ilya, this is a wonderful piece, the
way it builds, the use of "non-musical" sounds, the unison saxes, the
harmony saxes, the production, the energy, the jazz. Wow. Your
technique alone is enough to slay an old worn out sax player like me,
but the rest of this tune, saxes aside, is really excellent too. The
double-time near the end is especially fun. I will be interested to see
what kind of response this masterpiece gets on the "new" Macjams? But
from me - it gets a bunch of double digits.
