Lyrics co-written by Jack Miller and Rich Schletty. Music originally written by Jack but this arrangement was transposed from Am to Em by Rich. I put a different rhythm to the song. Compare to original version:

http://www.macjams.com/song/8531

All instrumentation (guitar, harmonica, tambourine) and singing in this version done by Rich. I am especially proud of my 50 cent tambourine recently purchased from a rummage sale at St. Stanislaus Church.

Lyrics
It's been thirty long years since I left her,
thirty long years to the day.
I set out to find my good fortune,
set out to make my own way.

Like many that went out before me,
I only dreamed of what could be.
But now all my dreaming looks backward
to my home across the sea.

Good luck to the anglers baiting.
Good fortune in life's lottery.
My own destiny is awaiting
in my home across the sea.

I'm hearing the pipes playing sweetly.
The music and mirth make me smile.
The dawn of a new day excites me
as I dream of my Emerald Isle.

And in my mind, oh, the memories prevail:
The stone walls weaving through the meadow,
the hanging mist as the fishermen set sail.
It's where I still long to be--my home long ago!

So many long hours in this faraway field,
for love and for money I toil.
Though all my fine labor has given me yield,
I'd rather breathe Ireland's soil.

Now as the shadows do lengthen,
I yearn to return to my source,
the wellspring that will help me strengthen
my sinews, my heart, my life force!

It's been thirty long years since I left her,
thirty long years to the day.
I set out to find my good fortune,
set out to make my own way.

Like many that went out before me,
I only dreamed of what could be.
But now all my dreaming looks backward
to my home across the sea.

Lovely playing!
Really enjoyed the tune! This is a very satisfying piece of folk. It has a
very old world feel to it. I think the production is top notch! I do think
the story of the song could be improved a bit. Perhaps made more
dramatic with a tale of a storm at sea or something? I dunno. I do like
it! I love the harmonica, melody and man, that's a great fifty-cent
tambourine! Don't you love a good deal?
