Description
Scaling to absurd new heights (or depths)... it's me again!

It gets more and more interesting as it develops... especially when the bass (and other things) kick in after the 1:30 mark.

After this you NEED to check out Datafunk's fantastic spaced out underwater treatment...! Don't miss it!

Ooooo!
Stun, you frighten and entertain and amaze and inspire me all at once.
This would make great before bed music and I think this is the music
they play under toadstools.

Jeez!
Very cool this! You and Electro Estate ever consider a duel or a collab?
Astonishing array of sounds. Great mix. This reminds me of the first few
seconds after I (at the time a curious 6 year old) stuck a butter knife into
an electric outlet!

Be well!

Jeez!
We actually did do a collab together!
It was uploaded under the name "ElectroClubCrew".

All resemblance
to a "Z" is now missing. But that's one busted typewriter. Full of machine emotions and philosophizing weather phenomena. It's like when you're doing something, and then you stop, and your brain freezes for a moment, in a little 'thought cul-de-sac' with the same bits o' thought fragment repeating in little cycles, working out some useless and long ago settled bit of reasoning that's just keeping the brain revving before tackling the next task. This sounds like that to me, like the mind static in the pauses between what's doing.

Freaky
It's funny cause you have a distinctive sound to me that stands out quite
easily from all the others. I like your stuff as always. My wife says you
are a freak...this is a good thing i think!!! :)

You're no freak!
Great stuff once again. Always interesting; I had to keep listening to see
where it would go, and it is filled with pleasant surprises, and never
boring. You have a good control of form. I liked the fact that the pitch
centers changed occasionally. Very well done!

If dreams were music
This sounded to me to be the perfect music to play while reading "Naked Lunch." Minus the hallucinated giant bugs.

Psychedelic isn't really the right word. Surreal is more appropriate.

Really cool listen. Fun.

If dreams were music
Thanks Charlie... It is always interesting to hear what people think when they listen to these. I get the naked lunch connection... with the typewriters...

Lately I have been thinking that it sounds like some sort of tone challenged singing lesson for robots.

If dreams were music
You know, I quite like your "Naked Lunch" analogy. When I think about what this piece really means to me (besides the odd juxtaposition of noises), I think about thought and memory process (see perceptualvortex's description, above) and other things like life and death... perhaps this is the sound of the thoughts conjured up by an author writing down his life story. He remembers fragments of incidents, sounds, impressions...

Eccentrikamerika said 1214 days ago (July 13th, 2006)
wow
i've had to sit with this one for a bit. what got me is your pairing this
with resuscitated joy. without your mentioning of that, would i have
put the two together? i'll never know.......
but what hits me about that comparison.... i still can't figure out.
resuscitated joy is one of my very favorite stun tracks- the image that
always comes to me is that of someone passing out of this life by
means of series of strokes- or that of a ghost trying desperately to
reconnect with life. two odd analogies, but they make sense in my
mind. mostly because my mom both died of a series of strokes, and
(believe it or not) hung around afterward for a year or two making
subtle yet jarring little inroads into our lives thru electronic means.
somehow, you gave a particular voice to a specific experience of mine.

this piece has a lot more life in it, i feel breath from it. there is also a
tension which i feel is not applicable to 'afterlife'. for me, this is a
prequel. the oo ah ee ing reminds me of the 3 headed consort to the
witch/manager in miyazaki's 'spirited away'- the character had a
certain resonance with me as something that had so very much to say,
but not quite the tools with which to do so.

i think the sediment of this exceedingly long comment comes down to
a very deep appreciation of your work, which, to me, is really
outstanding.

cheers

Stun Nutz said 1214 days ago (July 13th, 2006)
wow
Thanks Eccentrik... First of all, I want to say that I get a deep satisfaction in knowing that you can find meaning in the stuff I do. I am always glad to see when you have come by to listen and comment. I know I have told you before, but comments like yours really help me figure out my own work... I would be kidding you if I told you I knew what my music "means" most of the time... it takes time to verbalize it. At first, sounds and ideas just seem to excite me on a pure sonic level, but I often come to realize later that they may have deeper (subconscious?) meanings.

I am intruiged about what happened with your mother... "making subtle yet jarring little inroads into our lives thru electronic means." In what ways, may I ask? I have a pretty open mind when it comes to stuff like that. Unexplained phenomena has always fascinated me. Also... now I have to check out "Spirited Away" again! The first time I saw it, I only saw bits and pieces of the movie and was unable to sit down and concentrate. (I caught it on cable and the kids were nutz that night, you see.)

Finally, you were confused at first why I made the connection with "resuscitated joy"... and it was because of a few things: the abstract way I sing the notes, the heartbeat, or pulse, of the bass (similar to the thumping in "joy")... and the samples that I use which are tied to deeper meanings (life, death, etc.). In "joy", I sampled a wedding march and funeral song (two very important events in one's life)... and in this one, I sample bells and chimes (a reference to church bells and the onset of time). I think your point about this being a prequel to "joy" is true. It fits better as life, rather than death. Hmmm... perhaps the gloomy bells at the end singify the coming end of time... as in the end of life? I like that idea.

Natural
The thing that strikes me most about your stuff is that it's full of
personality - most notably wit - you seem to proceed with a natural
instinct for what works. There's a kind of conversation (or even a song
with alien lyrics) going on in this piece.

Top stuff

Nice to meet you Stun
It's great knowing there's someone out there with the obsessive genius to
do this and have three kids too (I've got two). I'm kinda new at this game
after years of analog - I want like a digital woodchipper to play iching
with. BTW - what do the numbers behind each keyword mean? There's a
lot of mysterious numbers at MJ.
