Excellent song
Very good singing and arrangement, Joseph.
I'm wondering what the more electric-sounding guitar part would sound
like without the phasing (yeah, go figure, from me who usually drenches
his music with effects).
BTW, it's funny how music triggers memories/associations - at a couple
of points, in the first half of the song, I wanted to start singing Badfinger's
"Baby Blue". I'm sure it's just the juxtaposition of a couple of chords.

You know it funny....
....I actually realized about halfway through working on this that it starts out
using the same chord progression at CSN&Y's "Helplessly Hoping" which was a
favorite were did in one of the bands I was in in college. So now everytime I start
to play this on my guitar, I have to remember which song it is I'm doing.

I actually added the phasing to the guitar because it didn't sound just right. It
still doesn't sound just right, but it sounds more like I wanted. I just need to
keep messing around with it to find out what sounds best.

	NICE WORK bring the lovely guitar sound more into the mix...it sounds muffled.. a very nice song, strong lyrics, sad but hopeful. Your vocals sound a bit tentative, but you shouldn't feel tentative because your voice is perfect for this style. very enjoyable listen best z Check out my latest song called Stepping Down

Muffeled guitar
I still have problems recording my accoustic/electric in GB. I've tried running it
in straight, just using a mic, or both and no matter what, I still get kind of a
muffeled sound. It may be my GB settings rather than the input. I guess I just
need to experiment some more until I figure it out.

I'm with Fran about your vocals Joseph (and the guitar for that matter)
- you sing maybe better than you think. Your vocal picks up a lot on
the "empty echoes" verse. You have a real quality of Jon Anderson
from Yes in there, and I'm confident that will come out the more you
do this. I particularly like the way you do "woooos" - much harder than
most people realise. The nit for me is perhaps the piano melody early
on - a little stilted perhaps? Overall though, I like this - your music is
getting better and better with each post.

Thanks Neil
It's good to know someone is hearing signs of improvement. I sometimes feel
like I get stuck in a rut creatively and technically and I don't hear the progress
that others hear.

I'm getting more and more confident in my vocals. I'm trying to sing more
everyday and with this tune, there's no telling how many times I just sat down
with the guitar and sang it over and over before I recorded the first note. I
mentioned before I've moved away from the "one take" style of recording. I
think being more comfortable with the song, with the lyrics is giving me more
confidence in my vocals.

As always, I very much appreciate you taking the time to listen, Neil. And your
comments and advice are always spot on. Thanks!

The Fritters

I think this might be misclassified as Alternative Rock, I would call it
more like Soft Rock-Adult. Reminds me a bit of of the group America.
Really good vocal. The piano isn't bad but it just sort of meanders, and
I don't think the piano solo is at all necessary. I think the song's a little
long, the risk being that you're taking a chance on inducing boredom.
The best thing about the song is the tenderness of the vocal and the
easy to sing melody. People would probably be tempted to sing along,
but they may be singing "bored" instead of "warmed". (just kidding)
And you should cut out some of the other stuff. There's a muffled
guitar that sounds sort of mid-rangey that is sort of a problem, not
helped by the phasing effect. Since it's just strumming along with the
other one, I would either ditch it or make it real quiet and take out the
mids.

If it's sounding like I'm picky, it's because I tend to notice little things
that don't serve the song, and more often than not I want to cut them
out. Toss out the non-essentials. This is a difficult comment to leave,
though, because I think you have a really good sweet song here and it's
so sincere and well-meaning, but I really think you can make it even
moreso by going back into it and cleaning it up. You may have tried to
make it into too much of a big production. Hope you take this the right
way, because with a song this personal you probably have a lot
invested in it. And I'm probably just being too picky.

I see what you are saying, especially about the lenght of the song. Sometimes I
do tend to have a tune go on way too long. This one clocks in at 6:54, which I
didn't even realize until after you mentioned it. As for the piano parts, they were
originally meant to be fillers until I came up with something better. Well, I never
came up with anything better.

I'm not the best at self editing when it comes to my tunes. That's why I'm always
glad to get comments and suggestions like the ones you've made. They give me
a new perspective in looking at a tune. Your comments are very much
appreciated. Glad you liked the tune and thanks for stopping by.

nice mood piece!
and your singing gets more comfortable later in the song. sometimes
singing all the way through before hitting the record button helps, it has
helped me to loosen up. i agree it is a little thick on the bottom end,
some times using the multiband compression on the master track can
help tighten a song up. but be careful because its to easy to overdo it,
and don't stare at the faders, use the ears. but a nicely put together song
and the vocal harmony is always a nice touch.

I have never really gotten the hang of using the multiband compression in GB, so
I've never really used it. I know there are a lot of things like that I could use to
really help with the sound of the final mix, but I just have as of yet taken the
time to learn enough about them.

Like it...
...because you step out of your boundaries - of yourself. As always, a
clean straight forward messege, with depth and soul. Not one of your best
ones (production), But at the same time; one of the most surprisning and
different ones. The Cure comes in mind; sad and more sadness... I am a
lyrics-person. I would personaly like more bass - I think it would help the
somg... Nice backing vocals, nice arrangements.... Like I said, not one of
your best ones, but don't give up; this one has character and pondus to
live a long life...

Nice song
This is overall very pleasant to listen to. Good songwriting, an
arrangement that has enough ingredients to keep one's interest
throughout the song, and it's all very nicely recorded. For what it's worth,
the phasing guitar doesn't bother me, and I like the sound of the piano.
Apart from the short delay, are there other effects on it? Maybe the delay
makes it sound phase-y. -- Victor.
