Paints a picture
Wow! Sounds very atmospheric; you have an amazing gift of being able to paint beautiful pictures with music. Sounds like this could be part of a larger suite. Very nice; I always enjoy your music, and I'm happy to see you are producing new pieces on a fairly regular basis.

All the best,
Clark

Thank You Clark
It always means a great deal to me to hear from you about my music. It's interesting that you felt this could be a part of a larger suite. In fact it is. I've been working on at least two other sections - was tempted to put it all up as a work in progress but I get few plays on my short works and don't expect many would bother with a longer one.
Once again many thanks and I'm looking forward to hearing what's coming next from you.
Be Well,
Charles (Bowman)

my two cents...
Bowman,
There's something "eastern" about this number...and I am a sucker for the open 5ths. Such a nice interplay between wwinds. This is a very thoughtful number, ingeniously conceived. I have never heard anything quite like it and that's why it's so fresh-sounding. Bravo. I hope you will take the advice from composerclark and put together a suite of some length along these lines. It would be a real contribution to small ensemble literature. Do you write any of this out?
Nice to hear something of substance tonight!!! Many thanks.

Thank you Paul
It's great to here a fellow composer and one so gifted find value and some pleasure in my work.

It's always a kind of mystery to me as to how a piece comes together. Sometimes - in fact quite often when I'm away from a keyboard, I get bits and pieces of something - phrases running through my mind. I have enough knowledge to jot down some sketches - themes, rhythms, and maybe though not often a few chord progressions. It’s when they mentally take off and develop extensively that I'm frustrated at not more adept at writing down what I "hear".
This piece started on the keyboard, with a cool combination of the Bassoon and Clarinet. The open 5ths where such an odd yet compelling sound that they became the grounding of the piece.
I hope to one day bring out more of this. It was so nice of you to say that this could make a contribution to small ensemble literature. Just hearing that makes my day.
Thanks for dropping by and the very kind words.

Since I was a teenager I've been making short films. I always loved making them but there was something very special about taking the footage into a quiet editing room then placing one shot against another. That's when the magic really happened. And ... [see more]
