Description
i've been playing with this song for a year now, and just lost it somewhere down the road. i don't know where and how it went wrong and i'm just tired of it at the moment. so i'm uploading it as it is, hopefully sometime soon it will be saved somehow. so please feel free to bitch as much as you can, it can only get better (can it?). there are some vocal samples that i inserted because macy gray wasn't available at the moment, they should definitely get kicked out as soon as possible. i will be following up with the no-vocals version and maybe some talented singers around will chip in, we'll see.

worth finishing
Good stuff here. It really reminds me alot of one of the cuts on the old Issac Hayes album, "Hot Buttered Soul" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Buttered_Soul ).

Good steady groove at the beginning, contrasting section and slow build up of the groove again and fade out.

I would keep that first voice part in there but when that second voice comes in after the first voice repeated, the harmony doesn't seem to work for me. I'd leave it out or give her a different line. It also gets to busy with the back and forth with the voices later on. It might work if the the contrasting voice was more complimentary to the first voice part, otherwise I'd leave that 2nd voice out.

Also, after the first voice comes in the second or third time, I'd bring the bass back in. It comes in later and much fainter than at the beginning of the tune. That is one of your tune's driving thing, that wah bass. Flaunt it for the continuity of the piece.

I like your horn line placements, tasty.

You know, this also would sound good with some kind of rapping on top of it, possibly as a collab project down the road. But all in all, I like what ya got going.

the bass part --> you're right. interesting, i was just thinking about that before uploading. i had something there coming in before vocals, and i thought it's too busy, so i got it (the bass) back later...

rapping - didn't think off that at all, and that is exactly what i need, that kind of ideas here.

thanks a lot for listening and thoughtful thinking. good pair of ears there.

cheers, hooyadahoo

boom boom
tight bottom beat and a nice flow between guitar and horn. Like the lyrics let the music play when it first comes in but then it get a little to repetative. I understand that its not a what you had in mind. THis is a great foundation and so maney different directions you can take it. lots of potentail here!!

To my ears ....
... I agree with the comment above .. the first line of vox ... sounds OK ... the second voice coming in sounds like it is singing off key ... probably cause it is fighting with the first one and gives the impression of sounding off ... probably doesn't sound off when just played alone ... but it seems timed wrong in here ... same for the third layer of the vox loop. Also .. the repetition of the same vocal line detracts from the music behind it .... gives the impression that the song is repetitious .. where as the song is not .. the vocal loop is. Am I sounding repetitious now ????

Good groove there!
Good track! And after reading your introduction I was tempted to open my big mouth! Here are a few ideas. I'd pick a different drum sample, more on the trip hop side - this drum loop is crisp, but becomes a bit repetitive because of the open hi-hat and the somewhat busy snare. Also, not so sure about the voice sample, I like your voice much better - so much more original and interesting. Excellent buildup with the fluttering synth sample. I also appreciate how you take a break every once in a while. You use the piano before the rhythm comes back, hmm would introduce the piano before you do that, comes a bit as a surprise. Again, feel free to ignore all of that you're obviously good at what you're doing and don't need my advice:) oh and I almost forgot, your guitar playing is excellent!

good ears
thanks man, very good comments, appreciate it. almost everything you mentioned went through my mind too, except of maybe the piano part... and my voice too, because back in january i still thought i will never sing... the most obvious changes - if i ever redo this one - are vocals and drums related, that's for sure... Sisters (Anne) promised some help, so we'll see... thanks for the listen and thoughtful comment...

Karma - i play synths and guitars, other stuff is samples, some original, some filtered and edited.

thanks everyone for stopping by, cheers.
