Description
Another entry for Analogapalooza. Actually, I prefer this version out of all the other versions I have of this song. It sounds better than any of them. I really don't know why I submitted the one I did to MacJams way back when. This sounds much fuller and a whole heck of a lot richer IMO.

By the time I recorded this (early '98?) I had aquired a Fender Passport PA System that came with two Fender branded SM-58 clones. So, I ran everything through the PA for effects and then into the Porta Studio.

Again, I think this version sounds way better that the all digital version posted here

Lyrics
Reaching
Dave Placko © 1997

I think I might be gettin' on
I might be loosin' it all
So, if I die before I wake
Who's gonna break my fall?

I see it now
It's right out there in front of my face
And if I could just catch a hold of it
I'd find out what it's got to say

Now, I'm on my own
It's not what it's cracked up to be
If I could just get that across
What a better world this would be

I see it now
It's right out there in front of my face
And if I could just catch a hold of it
I'd find out what it's got to say

And when that's the end of it all
No more are there children that die
I don't think that any of us
Will be worthy of the light

But I, I don't know
If that's the way it's supposed to be
And if it is, I guess
I'll just have to take it that way

THE MUSIC TALKS !!
What a great song is this ??
Great work with the guitar, the vocal is good, specially the vocal harmony, but i wish that the vocal was a little louder, but really great music and guitars work here.
Thanks for sharing this piece here with us.

Thank you
Thanks for listening. I agree about the vocal. Problem is, I was doing this on cassette tape. Editing cassette tape isn't very easy. The newer version posted elsewhere has a better vocal but, overall, this one sounds better.

Wow!
Thanks. Again, I don't know why I previously posted the version I did. I think I was taken in by all the new toys I had to work with. Sometimes, less is more.

a cracker of a song ...
haven't heard previous version(s) but that guitar's incredibly lush and full-sounding - vox and lyrics excellent too - those lovely harmonies reminds me a little of CSNY. nice one!

Thank you
Always nice to be compared to my idols. CSN&Y, huge favorites. Thanks for the compliment.

Dave - this tune is amazing
the guitar sound and vocal blends are tremendous. There really was something special happening when we had our Porta Studios going. I'm reading Inside Tracks - interviews with the great early and later rock engineers and producers and it's really insightful and a great companion to this Analogapalooza thing. They all talk about the tape age and 4 track recording with reverence and this is a another example of why.
Great track.

BTW - I wasn't able to post a comment on Decision. Weird.

Thanks
I read somewhere, years ago, that the pros preferred tape over digital 1. because of the warmth provided by the analog process and 2. tape adds natural compression that is very pleasing. I thing now days digital is getting better. I don't know much about either but, I know that this little number does sound better than the all digital version posted elsewhere. So, maybe there's something to it.

Oh, and I posted a test on "Decision." No problems. Hmm. Weird!

backflash
Ditto on the CSN&Y sound. Like in a live concert it is.

Got a good flashback going into them yesteryears, which we all cherish for the music we got out of it.

Nice job.
