Description

This is a very different and extended version of my previously posted Cerulean Dream - Finale. So different that the other song will remain a song in its own right, with only a few minor fixes.

Anyway, I asked Mystified if she would care to add some angelic voice to that track and to my great joy she accepted! And not only did I get one vox track, but five of them!

Some of the comments on the former song had it that it could be made longer, with a slower build and a longer ending. With all this great vox material at hand I "spread them out" in the new GB 4 window, added textures, took away a troublesome drum track and started to tweak...

I sent a draft to Mystified who was not completely happy with the treatment I had given her voice. And since she is a real pro at these things I only had to listen to her wisdom and try to act upon it. In this case it more or less spelled "reverb", in all possible manners :)

And I think we are both quite happy with the result now, I sure am... Hope you are too!

About the title: I am currently reading the fantasy books called The Belgariad by Dave Eddings. In it there is a very powerful stone which turns blue now and then and sings to its rightful owner or guardian. The song is divided in two slightly different sections, which could describe two of the stone's different "moods". The first part being the stone calling from a long distance (when taken from its rightful place) and the second when greeting Belgarion in Riva. Something like that...

Again, thank you Mystified for your great input on this song! For the wonderful vocals, of course, but not the least for all your expert mixing help!

Well....I'm no expert....
...by any means, as far as mixing goes! I've soooo much to learn!
But I'm very grateful that you let me have a few words (and then a few more) on the mix!

I really like the added first section of this piece with the voice against the synths and the 'heartbeat' pulse. Very mysterious and intriguing, and brings to mind images of far-away lands and epic quests...

	Sonic Journey This is really cool. Sounds like it could be used as the theme music for some mysterious fantasy movie or myst like game. I do not always
have the patience to build it slow. If I have an idea I want to go right at it, but I agree that it is often more satisfying with this slower build. And yeah, Mysti's voice is really great, on this song and always..! Thanks for listening and for your kind comment!

Glad you liked it! Downloading is arguably the truest form of praise on this site, I think. It is easy to be carried away by the voting system e.g. and some may see the Favorite button as a way to be seen by others, but downloading seriously mean that you would like to listen again. and now for something comPLETELY different!
What the? The ticket I bought at the door said "Henke's Cerulean Dream"... but once I got in and sat down, I got a totally different piece! Hey! What did you do with Henke? Is he tied up in the projectionist's booth? :-)

This is a grand leap ahead of what you have done before! And it is not just Cat's voice... oh, Cat knows she has a sweet singing voice, and it fits in nicely here. The reverb does help smooth it into your music, and adds some ethereal mystery. But...

Your new introduction is delightfully slow-paced and well thought-out. I love the sparse echoed drum-beat, and your placement of Cat's voice (or her placement and your editing) is very nice. The slow build is great... take your time. The switch from mysterious minor to your sparkly major-based finale-theme is quite seamless. I still think the ratchety percussive spinner thing (dunno its name) is a little loud there. But overall, this is so much more than it used to be... you ought to be proud of this accomplishment!

Thank you Cat for working with Henke, what a great production you have helped him with.

The 7 minutes passed quickly and I had to play it again. :-)

Like Apple I don't always change the name just because the gadget is all new ;-) However several tracks are pretty much the same... But I agree, the impression is rather different. I guess I might have been too impatient with some of my previous songs; uploaded before they had reached their full potential. I hope to take care of some of that in a not too distant future, now I've got GB 4 too.

I am especially glad you didn't mind the change from the minor sounding first half to the major-based second. At times I almost thought I'd have to split it in two, but I am glad I didn't. Oh, and about the ratchety thing, I think it is a wonder it can be heard at all after all the times I've lowered the volume on it... :-) But you are probably right. I like the other effect better, but the variation is probably good for the overall impression.

I AM very proud, but it is very much thanks to Mystified, who made me go on to improve on her voice tracks and the overall mix!

(And the song is really 7.55 minutes which I neither can grasp - except after doing a little bit of tweaking and suddenly realising that hours have gone passed ;-) )

Definitely a piece of two distinct moods - that unwavering rhythm of the first part with the synth and Mysti's gorgeous vocal weaving in and out builds an unnerving suspense so the move into the upbeat mood comes as a complete but very pleasing surprise. Not only did this not feel as if I'd been listening for nearly as long as 8 minutes it actually felt as if it was over too soon - I could have listened to a lot more. Fantastic collaboration!

From a gentle
swirling floating through familiar forms and colours to a majestic encounter with the cosmos. Folks this is such a pleasure to hear! It combines tastefully crafted blankets of synth sounds and the ethereal sound of a woman's worldless free form singing - I'm a sucker for both. And I agree that the first part would work well in a game like Myst Riven or Exile.

I'm on my second listen, and it only gets better. Absolutely first rate, and BRAVO to both of you!!

Ah, my fellow Scandinavian ...
I think you must know that this is a masterpiece. I was amused by your comment elsewhere that I have more talent than you. Ha! I have never approached this level of pure deep ambience. It is my goal, that's all. It's funny, I was reminded almost immediately of Riven (Myst 2), which I completed (!) with no help (!) some years ago. Then I read the comments and found that others had made similar comments.

Thank you so much for your very kind comment. Made my day. But I really don't know about masterpiece. A close listen would certainly reveal flaws of this kind and that. But of course I feel very flattered. And about talent, your comment itself proves you've got it. Completed Riven with no help?! I hardly even entered the actual game in Myst (I)... So that's settled! But thank you also for the links. I see what you mean, the atmosphere IS rather similar to the first part of this song.

Wow - what a heartbeat throughout the first part of this song. That beat is just very cool. Along with Mysti's vocals, haunting and longing and movement. Very cool, indeed. I love the sparseness of the beginning, letting that heartbeat and the stone's voice really be heard, setting the mood. I have not yet read the Belgariad, but have read some of Eddings other stuff. I love soundtracks like this that bring beloved stories to life. You've done a fabulous job of painting us a picture here. Very cool synth stuff as it moves into the second half of the song. I love the happier feel of the second half. Lots of great movement there too - and a celebration of meeting, coming together. Just great work here, Henke. This is an epic piece - congrats!

I'm speechless here!
It seems we feel about the same way for this one. I really love the first part. But then comes the second half and my heart fills up with joy.

But it came to a price. Couldn't make another song worth mentioning until last weekend with "The Land". Probably worth it though, I guess. I'm not that productive anyway...
