Lyrics
THE NIGHT’S TOO LONG

I see you’re thinkin’ of moving on, ya know
Onto a place you think that you gotta go
Things too quiet for you, the Town’s all but dead
But can’t help but thinking
Of something else, that ought to be said

Cause you don’t realize
The Way it is
In my eyes
I never said
But you should know

Yeah
Without You, the Night’s too long
And all the Songbirds forget their songs
The Moon comes out and just weeps
About the Secret he knows he must keep

You find these things
When you don’t even look
I wasn’t watching when my Heart got took
But, you look around
It’s so plain to see

Yeah
Without You, the Angels stand with folded arms
And the flowers forget to bloom, in the field, of the farm
And the rain clouds gather to hide the sun away
It’d all be different
If you’d only Stay

Yeah
Without You, I’d just never know
About the talks neath the Harvest Moon
And dancing slow
Across the floor, a plain, that has no end
When arm in arm you’re dancing with your very best friend

Sometimes you’re not looking
When you find these things
It’s just the way
Oh, please, there’s just one more thing that I’d like to say.

Excellent, my friend!
You've cobbled together quite a collaboration here. Very catchy. Great lyrics and you and Annie d a great job with them. Love the build of the guitar throughout the piece. I'm assuming it's Neil on the bass. Bravo all around.

Mississippi Masters
Annie is the key.
Almost drove her crazy. She said,"I'll sing you just rap with the guitar!"
She pulled it from the Ether, truly.
"Drivin' Wheel" Porter provides the Picket line like he was born to it.

Reminds me of "All Over Now" in a few ways.

compliments and regards,
Coop

Dylanesque
I really like this tune. Your talking delivery works well. In my studio speakers, the trap (I think that's what it is) reminds me of the titchy sounds used in techno, instead of a real drumkit, which kind of bugged me throughout. Also, Annie is so mellow, compared to the rest of the mix, she sounded like she was singing in a different space, and I thought that could be fixed with more edge to her EQ, more presence, to match you, and then placing her back a bit with reverb, like backup sisters. Otherwise, her great vox and your DYlan-like talking make for an enjoyable incongruence. Nice to have you back. I dig the artwork you chose, as well.

Compus Mentus Shadows
Yeah, a tight Rogers snare would have cut the Kit rattle quite a bit, but we were short one.
The vocal mix is the big challenge here; pretty disparate. The EQ has some edge but gets signal cancelled in a doubling that I added for more size. She is intended to be mellow, but not indistinct. Could have used another pass at that balance point.
Comprehensively noted and cogently stated, as is your gift.
with appreciation and regards,
Coop

BANDIT!
You look so Classical, these days. Something else.
It's Dire Straits or Fleetwood, depending on point of view. Accidental.
Annie changed everything.

thank you for your welcome comment.

take two
ain't that the way it is. True I can hear the sound more tapered on the top. You truly captured the true sounds of a strat. nice!

This song really sticks in the mind. That's what make a tune perfect!

Will you stop ....
..... putting up new versions so I can quit writing comments :)

Liked it when I first heard it, like it still. Tobin has a point about Anne's mellowness, and I think there's a bit more lag on her vocals than on the next most recent version I heard (like ....... yesterday!).

It is a neat song - hopefully more to come from "The Trio". No return perhaps?

Cheers,
Neil

Excellent!
I love the vocals and the arrangement.

JJ Cale meets Mark Nobbler with a nod to Bob Dylan on the way.

Lovely stuff.

Cheers
