Description
This is a redo of my 3rd collaboration with Bill Barner and my first with Martin Kember-Smith (Komrade K). Since I am currently going wild with B3 organ play, I wanted to overdub organ onto this track as an experiment. KK's fiddle distorts (on tape) toward the end and I thought maybe a distorted rock B3 sound leading up to that might mask it, make it seem more cohesively in keeping with the moment. (Altho I use a bunch of other light, more celtic sounding organ stops/settings prior to that section.)
Earlier version: Caught In The Current (w/ BBarner and Komrade K)
If you want, please let me know if you like the original significantly better, otherwise I am considering adding this track to the Rain Bather album, depending how the other tracks come in. It is a little meandering in places, but finishes strong. Without organ, I wouldn't add it to the playlist, since I play organ on all the other tracks.
The tune started as a jazz rendition of a song from my musical CREATURE. But the stylings of the new solos give it a AfroCeltic feel. I posted the earlier version under Celtic for fun, even tho it is more World Jazz than traditional Celtic. (There is no AfroCelt or World Jazz genre at MJ.)
Dane Richeson, percussionist, came with 2 suitcases of stuff, spread them on the floor, and we recorded him in six passes. (I have no idea how many instruments he ended up playing.) Clarinet was added by Bill, with the next pass adding Martin on Violin. The organ was added last week, right before my hard drive collapsed.
Previous collabs with BBarner:
Secret of Life
Let Me Play (w/ McBoy too)
Previous collabs with Komrade K:
Can't Complain
Hold On
RAIN BATHER draft mixes on MJ:
Lightning Strikes
I Wanna Fly
Caught In The Current (feat. Bill Barner)
Finding No Path
Seven Buttons On A Nehru Jacket
Last Song On Vaudeville (feat. Bill Barner)
Pre-release CDs can be purchased here (includes more info on recording): RAIN BATHER.
