Description
I don't have a fireplace, but if I did maybe I would sit around playing something like this. This song is also kind of a prayer for peace-I keep hoping that someday people will quit killing each other.
If you do have a fireplace try listening to this song in front of it.However don't get your computer to close, you might melt the screen.
Have a great Holiday everyone!

Really great...
...separation of the voices. You're all over the place on that neck. Another fine, fine piece, Mark. Cool technique at the end...wat u doin' thar? Little percussive over the false harmonics...hmmm...

I don't have a fireplace either. I burned a piece of paper on the floor by my feet while I listened to this, though. Very relaxing. Peaceful.

The
harmonics thing is stolen from Lenny Breau-you hold down a chord(it can't have any duplicate notes) and alternate between a harmonic and a natural note on every other string. It gives a cascading effect. The percussion sound is unintentional-just sloppiness!
Thanks for listening to my song!

you know...
.. it has a holiday feel to this. As always great guitar tunesmith.

I don't have a fireplace, even though my house is old enough that it should. What were they thinking.

But this is a very warm song. And that makes up for it.

Ah the sound of holiday peace
Like a quiet night watching the snow fall through the living room window late at night. As usual Mark you are at you best when you just let the feelings flow out of you. You are a very gifted musician and guitar player and it always shines through whenever you post a new song.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful winter wonderland of music Mark.

It is
kind of an unusual chord progression -I was a little stuck after the bridge but I figured out a way to cycle it back which seems to work pretty well.Nice to hear from you again!

aaah.
In my warm bathrobe, feet up, Jim Beam in hand, and the flames are a flickerin.

Nice one.

It's nice how you constructed this one. Loved your bass counter lines, they work so smoothly. Maybe these kind of tunes will help you relax while your healing your wrists.

Thanks for the holiday gift.

A perfect song for...
Painting a portrait or landscape but beyond that this is galactical (universal), it is pure as the night and the stars embedded within it, windows to the galaxy, much like classical music is...this shares that same quality. In other words gorgeous

really great playing
I found it a little bassy in tone, though, and I would have cut the low end a fair bit and bumped up a bit more of the high end emphasized to make it sparkle a bit more. The bass seemed to rattle my speakers a bit. That's about the only thing that detracted from this for me. Impressive picking, though!

Ibstrat said 689 days ago (December 20th, 2007)
You are
probably right about the bass- I probably listen to old jazz guitarists too much, they tend to use all bass & no treble.I am also listening thru tiny cheap speakers which makes it a little tricky to hear the true sound.
Glad you liked the song though-have a great holiday!

Fire image on laptop
Hey Mark,

Very cool! I am listening on my G5, while an image of a burning fire 'virtually' burns on my PowerBook.....

Sounds great through the G5 speakers...I'll try it on the big boyz later, but Amen on that prayer for peace! Without lyrics, this piece still goes into the soul! Great Job!
Peace,
Harold

Way more than just lint...
This is one of those pieces that just reaches inside and finds a nice cozy place to curl so that you can drift away into the embers of sleep and dream of luminous candy treats and multicolored spinning worlds... egg-salad-lint....

I would never guess...
...that this was played with an Ibanez Strat with a battered blade pick-up...It really sounds like some expensive hollow body...played through some expensive boutique amp...

Played with taste and nice pacing... Letting everything have the time to ring and have a chance to be savored at the listening ear... You have a great feel for both melody and harmony, Mark...

It sure sounds like fireplace music for me... I'm putting it into my Christmas playlist, too...

KIND KINDLING
I'm WAY into the soulful sound you're getting from the guitar. Just perfect.
Pensive and Pleasing, to my ear.
Truly fine capture and production values, here.

PS
Strikingly for me, the bedroom I grew up in was that color blue with a small, marble-faced fireplace.

I don't know where the image comes from that you used, but it really caught my attention.

No impact on my views of the merits of your fine piece, however!

Just luvverly...
Great track. It all comes together here: the right mood, good production, and very well played. Guitar is such an unsystematic instrument (if you're a keyboardist like me) and I'm always amazed if someone manages chorst melodies, counterpoint, bass lines, and whatnot kind of independence.

Great stuff.
