Description
Written in 1927...

Yep it's fake but it's pretty, I did this ages ago using an Atari 1040 and a Roland sound canvas.
The percussion, piano and bass are from the sound canvas and the fake guitar sound is from a prehistoric Yamaha dx9- so hi-fi buffs may as well leave the room right now as this is just a curio and it's only the actual music that is on offer here [as usual]. To top it all off it was then all recorded on to a very basic 4 track porta-studio. I think I may have improvised just one solo but the rest is as the book.

This is a Steely Dan arrangement of a Duke Ellington composition . I managed to get this arrangement from a book some years ago, I hope you enjoy it.

toodle loo
Thanks Len, I used the piano sound in the Roland sound canvas and the dx9 as the trigger. the only thing is that the dx is not velocity sensitive so it doesn't sound very convincing for lead work, though on reflection I suppose I could have gone into the grid edit on cubase and altered each note individually ! no - only joking.

John.

Steely Dan
You ought to hear the Steely Dan version Feter, it's on the album -Pretzil Logic - [I think] - mind you they were equipt with a bit more than a cheap portastudio and also they had a real guitar and Skunk Baxter playing it!!!

Thank you Feter and as Elvis Costello once said "what's so funny about peace love and understanding"

Swinging Steel
A tribute of a tribute?
Listening to an original recording and then the SD version I am always impressed with how spot their tribute rolls...
Baxter's steel guitar on the SD tribute to the original is brilliant. John, imho, you achieved an admirable take on the originals. Congratulations!
