Description:
This is a previous effort of mine that Ridd wanted to polish - the kind of offer you don't say no to. So of course he made it sound great. I love what he did with it and I'm sure you will, too.

Eric - Piano, guitars, vocals, keys
Ridd - Backing vox, percussion, slide guitar, turd polishing

The original: http://www.macjams.com/song/44019

Lyrics:
Given the circumstance of fate
Even the early bird comes late
But I'm wasted on you
Picking yourself up off of the ground
Life's lookin' up so don't look down
But I'm wasted on you.

You're unapproachable
If I can't get you I'll never try
You're unapproachable
But I can't get you off of my mind
No, I love you all the time
I can't get you off my mind
I love you all of the time.

....I was thinking, "where's this going?". And I have to say I loved it. Dig that little bass line, too.

This turd shines like the sun.

Great job. DL'd

totally awesome &mdash 08/20/08 - 11:25:59 AM
Man I love this song. Thanks for letting me have my way with it. I have a lot of experience polishing turds, but that wasn't the case here. More like a diamond with a teeny tiny little bit of rock that needed to be scraped off. Square Pegs next? ;)

I'm glad you got your hands on it. I'm just going to copy the effects and compression you put on my vocals from here on out.

Square Pegs is still a good idea, give me another 7 months to send it over to you :).

I absolutely abhor the way I sound singing, but after Ridd did whatever he did to the vocals, even I was digging the vocals. You're too kind, Feter!

I have a dirty, inappropriate joke ready to roll but sometimes self-censorship should win out. It's a family site. So I'll leave it at "thanks for checking it out". :)

progression &mdash 08/21/08 - 02:59:39 PM
i like that chord progression, even though it has been used quite a bit.

in fact, i really really like that chord progression.

great lyrics! great tune!

thanks

Thanks Bill &mdash 08/21/08 - 04:29:55 PM
I'm rarely inventive with my progressions or chords so I try to focus instead on melodic elements. I could listen to a I IV V progression for hours! Glad you dug it.

Like the song. Kind of Nilsson style :)

Thanks

Nilsson is a favorite of mine, actually. Unbelievable voice and brilliant songsmith. Any mention of him in conjunction with a song of mine is flattering, even if it's just in small pieces.

this turned out great guys. I really dig the sparse arrangement. Very tidy. And Eric your vocals are super. And Ridd the harmony guitar lines came out great!

This really bounces along nicely!

hi &mdash 08/21/08 - 10:54:22 PM
Thanks, Vic. If you listen to the original you can really tell how much Ridd cleaned up my vocal. It gave me an idea of just how much I left to learn... which is a good thing. Thanks for giving it a listen!

Your arraingements are so good &mdash 08/22/08 - 02:03:13 AM
and a great sound to go with it. Well worth the polish.
Dig the Harmonizing lead. Great stuff.

listening to this. I haven't heard the original version so I can't comment on whether it's better or not but I get something out of hearing this. I haven't got a lot more to say really but thanks for posting.

I don't know what &mdash 08/26/08 - 10:20:28 PM
to say as it tossed me into an inner zone that was not expected, I had to listen to this a couple of times too. To me what is really kill about it is, the dynamics of simplicity and how complex it is to manifest a great work. U'r on it. Great job........

I appreciate your comments. You make me feel brilliant :). A lot of the credit goes to Ridd for pushing this one over the edge. I'm on my way over to check out some of your stuff. Thanks for listening!

comment &mdash 10/12/08 - 12:06:01 PM
this is my third attempt at a comment - not sure why they're not going through. Hopefully they won't all show up at some point!

Anyway, to condense the comments I tried to make earlier, I really like your song. I like the beatlesque chord progression, sound effects, and the way the drums drop out at the end.

I look forward to hearing more of your stuff!
