Description:
This is quite a mantra. Not to be taken too seriously. I've been trying to get rid of some of my oldies, so I can post some songs I have actually done this year.

This song is just a message.

Please stay tuned for more to come.

Lyrics:
Better Days

Water and fire, the wind and the stone
Will wash my thoughts away

Lunar eruptions and all this corruption
Won’t lead to better days

And I know a better way
And I know there’ll be better days

Golden-red and silver gardens
Roam around my eyes

Then I saw another color
Forming in the sky

And I know of a better way
And I know there’ll be better days

Tractors are humming, the day is coming
Life is on the run

Windows are crashing, bullets are passing
Flamingo’s on the lawn

And I know of a better way
And I know there’ll be better days

A boy and a girl, they travel the world,
But they don’t know where to stop

Under the ocean and into the clouds
Reaching for the mountain top

And I know a better way
And I know there’ll be better days

Water and fire, the wind and the stone
Will wash my thoughts away

Lunar eruptions and all this corruption
Won’t lead to better days

And I know a better way
And I know there’ll be better days

Dave!
More of your trademark style - laid back and kinda Lucy In The Skies, but more contemporary.

Very visual - I can actually see those flamingos! Good time to release this sentiment given the worldwide situation. Yes - there will be better days indeed. The military drum at the end seems to stamp some authority on your mantra as if to say, "Listen up - it's true, there will be...!"

Really enjoying your poetry.

Cheers,

Jim

...and!
Forgot to say - it doesn't sound like it's 4'51" long - really flies in!

DL'd and on the pod. Great words.

Thanks
I thought it might be an appropriate tune to post, timing-wise.

4'51"- I didn't even realize that. It didn't seem that long.

Thanks Jim,

Dave

good stuff
Has a very nice live feel to it.
I like that it's nice and clear, not over complicated in it's production but with all the ingredients included. It's a tune to sing along to thats for sure! Very catchy.
Nice one

lavalamp said 50 days ago (November 19th, 2008)
Right on
Cool. Glad you enjoyed.

Very cool...
groovey lyrics - have to tell you that I listened to this yesterday but didn't have time to comment and as I was putting hay up last night the line came to me "Tractors are humming, the day is coming, life is on the run". What a cool line! Life is on the run indeed.

Really like the chiming arpeggio guitar...also the percussion - seems to be in the same vein as Hand Tinted Photograph - it suits your singing/lyric style. Hand Tinted and this one are two of my favorites...

tempie said 50 days ago (November 19th, 2008)
correction
sorry, earlier this morning rather...best to sleep before posting...still can't get that line out of my head...

Hey brother. Thanks for stopping by. Really appreciate the comments.

this done fly
by... not a long 5 minutes at all. It's such a Lavalamp song. Hopeful lyrics, but not bubblegum. A difficult thing to do.

I'd like to see how a bridge would work in this. Something to change it up in the middle.

cool song!

lavalamp said 50 days ago (November 19th, 2008)
Has anyone seen the bridge?
The bridge- Yeah, I know. I'm just lazy. It's not like I'm getting paid. lol

If someone pays me, I'll put a nice bridge in. Hell, I'll put the Golden Gate in.

Thanks Eric,

Dave

Lennon714 said 50 days ago (November 19th, 2008)
haha!
I love that attitude. The production quality of my tracks is directly proportionate to the amount I get paid for my work. I really wish I wasn't lazy, but... whatever...

thanks lava
saw in the forums you were looking for me....i have been away far too long....hope to be back with some new stuff soon!...as for you your new/old tune here...music kinda reminds me of the cocteau twins...and i LOVE the cocteau twins sound...and the lyrics are true....better days lie ahead!...mark

nice....
very whimsical Beatles, also very 80's Brit New Wave...

Like your poetic lyrics and your approach to them...

almost like Siouxsie and the Banshees' take on "Dear Prudence"

I'm a'really liking this, David!

lavalamp said 49 days ago (November 20th, 2008)
Dear Prudence
Love that one. I guess you could say I was influenced by that sound on this one.

Glad you stopped by. Thanks

Great song
Dave - I agree about Beatles comments. I can imagine a big choir at the end fading away - with a massive audience singing along. Great production.
Cheers

what the...
... hell are you doing on page 3 already? that sucks!!

anyway about the tune. cool 60's vibe that you do so well. has a bit of a Donavon meets Coldplay. if that makes sense.

excellent tune Dave!

Gripe
I always say that the music page should be longer. My biggest gripe here at MJ.

Anyway, thanks Vic. You're the man.

Lunar Eruptions
And all this corruption, Tractors are humming, the day is coming, Windows are crashing, bullets are passing... killer stuff dude. Really memorable performance.

I really think you've improved since your last song.

LOL!

I downloaded this yesterday and just now had a chance to comment. 4'51"? That means I've listened to it for about 3 1/2 hours in dog years.

A Dog's Year
Hey man, really? I'm improving? lol

Glad you liked the words. I'm going to have to put a brand new one up soon. I keep finding things in my closet.

Thanks,

Dave

Love the lyrics Dave
Nice feel that grooves along - that crash in the LHS gets a little repetitive at times, but doesn't detract from the general movement of the song. Lyrics are cool - hope there'll be a lot of better days.

repetitive
We all have our own "Blue Jay Way", you know. I was just putting up some of my b-sides, that's all.

Thanks for listening and enjoy the weather down under. We got hit by a snow storm last night.

fade ins
I like fade ins. Sounds like we write in about the same style.
I really like the melody to this. Very nice production. Layered just right.
Great lead guitar.. I prefer a guitar like that..you know the less is more idea!! Great Tune.Great sound!!!

lavalamp said 47 days ago (November 22nd, 2008)
Glad you liked it
I'm going to have to check out some more of your tunes. Yeah, sometimes I take the simple approach musically and concentrate on the lyrics. And sometimes all simple. lol

Hope to see you around more often.

Dave

dajama said 47 days ago (November 22nd, 2008)
The lyrics
on this are excellent. And I love the way you deliver them (as always!). Nice drums, and the pushing, driving beat is perfect for the vocal. Nice guitar sound on the lead (although I'd have made it louder!) and good sound overall. Very cool. You never disappoint. Nicely done, my friend. Peace.

lavalamp said 46 days ago (November 23rd, 2008)
Throw away
This was really a throw away song. But, the lyrics seemed fitting for the times. I was trying to do a sort of Magical Mystery Tour thing. Glad you liked.

I'll be post new ones after X-Mas. I have done many this year, but I haven't gotten around to posting any. You're currently helping me with one of them. THANKS.

i thought i was caught up with the things i was meaning to check out, but somehow this escaped me. so glad i found it. really in love with this one. love the whole sound of this track. it's like a song that would be my fave album track by some obscure english band. don't really know what to say but really nice track. it's a perfect length, and i love the repetition and lyrics. i know that it's almost 5 minutes long, but i could have gone all night. really outstanding song Dave, one of your best.

lavalamp said 46 days ago (November 23rd, 2008)
Almost...
...threw this one out. I thought it might be too repetitive. Lennon 714 said it could use a bridge or something. I tend to agree. But, on the other hand I liked the drony sound. English-sound.

Thanks M2. Always appreciate your words.
