Description:
the intro and ending, and some parts in between are actually guitars. It's a trick that I play around with when I'm goofing around. Plus, I totally effected them as well. I could of easily done it with synths. But this was more fun.
A bulk of the lyrics I actually wrote 15 to 20 years ago and finally had a song for them.
The song itself has been sitting around for a while. To much snow has been falling and seems I have spent every evening digging out. Well, I finally got a break from snow this weekend and was finally able to record the vocals.

Lyrics:
Still On Her Mindthe sun rises on the sleepy little town
she gets up slowly moving around
she gets ready to start the day
gets cleaned up putting things away
she can no longer delay
out the door and to the corner
to catch a bus to take her away
chorus:
the dream of the man
still on her mind
to take her away
staring out the window of the bus
draws a happy face in a layer of dust
she's daydreaming of the man far away
in the window she sees the reflection of her face
she dreams away
she studies the reflection of her face
always made up just in case
chorus:
she dream of the man
still on her mind
to take her away
lunch break from work she sees the man
this was not something according to plan
she sits there and wonders to herself
i could go over and kiss that man
she makes her move
the two of them walk away
now she wonders if it's only today
chorus:
she dream of the man
still on her mind
to take her away

Snow won't stop here either. Have to go back to work tomorrow. But, this tune kept me going. It's like a lost Vic Holman tune. VH nerds like me live for these moments.

This morphed quite a bit, first it was almost ambient experimental, then it turned into a Pink Floyd thing, then a different take. I ended up scrubbing a lot and decided to rock it out.

Instantly enjoyable, love the vocals, in fact I love everything about it. Great mix, great solo as well.
John.

I originally had this at over seven minutes with additional tracks. Then i decided to cut a lot out.

work w your git way too cool effects.. And as always I love Vic tunes.. TX for this new one, and have a great new one too... Cheers
Vic Holman
yeah there where a lot of effects used to create the sounds at the beginning, middle and end. It really put a load on my CPU. Lots of filters and stuff on 3 tracks.
Thanks again Kenta

Ye ...Hard drivin rockin song ...with all the magic ...the taste of
these guitars licks ...man ...just super super ...the bass so solid here
loved it ...thnx alot for the gem !!!!!
Vic Holman
I wanted the bass to be a driving factor on this. Actually I laid that down first and improvised it before adding guitars

Dig your psychedelic sound man!
Vic Holman
psychedelic gives you room to experiment.
after listening to your new song, i think you know what I mean

great production quality. Like the voice and that guitar sound, top draw stuff.
Vic Holman
... I'll tinker with the final mix a half hour at a time over a week. I think the ears get tired after that. So, I find taking it slow has helped me.
Thanks for the listen!

this on new headphones - I can really hear how much has gone into it. Great song/musicianship/vocals and wonderful mix. Love the bass/drums.
Cheers

Headphones make all the difference. I tend to mix for phones since it seems that's they way most people listen to music now. what type did you get? I use sennheiser hd 280 pro.
lengold
Really pleased with them.
PrototypeEightyOne
cool song, as soon as that clean guitar hit and it came together first thing i thought of was pink floyd.. good stuff.
Vic Holman
at one point this song was going in a Pink Floyd direction. Then I gutted it and changed to a more rock direction.
Thanks for the listen!

Happy New Year Vic! What a terrific way to ring it in.
There's so much I love about this tune, not sure where to start. The beginning works so many times, I think I'll start there... Interesting how the bass line just kinda wanders in before it gets into it's groove. Very cool atmospheric fog. The hand claps are the best. Solid clapping performance. One of your best. I also am quite impressed with those choppy little guitar parts on either side of my headphones. This is a fine arrangement.
I can't forget to mention your vocals are great and your drums keep getting better and better. Unbelievable.

Originally the clap (hand claps) was unintentional, but i thought it sounded okay and kept it.
I wanted the bass to be the main factor for most of it. So, I actually recorded that first.
There are those wild drums in parts especially during the solos that i wanted to go beyond keeping it simple. Just hearing them by themselves is really something.
DarkPlanet
Great song, lovely vocals- somehow the energy builds and builds, then doesnt let up, much enjoyed
Vic Holman
When I first was working on this it was more low key. I think all the snow here made me feel a bit more aggressive. so off on a different path it went.
bud
This is a classic Vic rocker - in the groove with hot licks. Great mix - well done.

the effect list to create those parts was nutz. infinite delays, volume pedal, ring modulators, spectral gate, a bunch of filter, and on and on. but, it is really cool to see what can happen.

if this is the new aggressive 2009 Vic Holman i'm loving him. This rocks. Everything is so up in your face - drums, guitar, lyrics, bass, whole deal. Cool bass groove in the intro then the blondie funk rhythm guitar and man the vocals in the chorus just kick ass. I don't even know what those sounds are that precede the guitar solo but they're spot on perfect. Ten stars, over the top goodness. Direct to the ipod. Thanks!!
Vic Holman
I do them once in a while, you might check out Body Electric, Girl On A Wing & Only want things.

an awful lot going on in here Vic yet you've kept the clarity.
Production is top notch. Great sound on the guitars and a cracking chorus.
Another hit :-)
Cheers

lots going on.... I even cut stuff out and shortened this one. This song took several different directions before I wrapped it up.
Thanks again Dick.

There is a lot going on in this and it is very cool stuff. I wish I had time to stop by more often. You come up with some very cool sounds.

I like working on different and weird sounds. I thought it was about time I threw a experimental one in. mostly for the fun of it!

this is first off a great song (almost like one of those motown acts that got all psych in the late 60's). you could play it straight like a stones song and it would kill. that said; i love the effected approach you took. i love stuff like this. you got some really cool sounds;and you actually put them in a song instead of a meandering ambient jam (unlike me). great stuff dude. maybe the snow is good for you.
Vic Holman
The effect stuff is something i dink around with once in a while. Those tracks are droning in A. Someday when I get motivate enough I'll build other notes to compile them together for something.
No.... snow bad!! 73"...... lucky for me it warmed up quite a bit for the last few days and has melted quite a bit of it.

This is superb Vic and I really love this, sounds great through my speakers here and another wonderful production!
Lots of great sounds here, especially the bass and I love your vocals!
Enjoyed this, thanks!

can make a guitar do things . Beautiful things! Dont you just love when you have something from the past that works so well now. Great leading as always! Sorry for the delayed response been busy preparing for the inevidable
Vic Holman
years ago i use to work out ways to make the guitar not sound like a guitar. I'll have to try to remember some of those and incorporate them.
kick ass new tune of yours!
jiguma
..... its a 25 degree beach day here I'm afraid :)
Another unmistakable Vic song.
I'm especially enjoying the guitar sounds here Vic - any hints? In fact all the instruments and vox are sounding terrific in this mix - gotta love Logic Studio!
Cheers,

guitar sounds. well the intro, outro and some other places. i used a infinite delay and used a volume pedal to buils up a sound. that i did with my digitech GNX2 peadl board. then just added plug ins like ring modulator, spectral gate and a auto filter to the seperatley to the three tracks.
the clean guitars i set to a twin reverb amp modeling also through the digitech, i aslo added slide parts to the chorus.
usually i double track guitar parts one to each side and either change guitars or a pick up selection or EQ. pretty much everything goes in is what comes out.
rsorensen
intro and outro sounds. wow man this one is so good. really like everything about it. your vocals are so aggressive in this and I love the bass and drums.
Vic Holman
the intro & outro is something i goof around with, but this time i added some warped plug ins to send it somewhere else. that's my punkish style on the vocals

people come into your life for a reason, but they just weren't meant to stay. You never forget them, and your life is changed forever for the better for the blessing of having known them, if only for a little while. A song comes up on the iPod while you're going about the business of your everyday life, and for a few moments, you allow yourself the luxury of happy memories.
dajama
Man, this is cool. The bass really works well, driving the track along at full tilt. And those drums are right on the money (i think the handclaps work well, too). Lovely guitar work; I really like that snappy playing over the bridge - very cool. Great lyrics, and excellent vocal delivery as ever. Lovely stuff. Nicely done, man. Peace.

this is so cool. This tune has a very catchy energy and the mix is so full and spacious and delicious. Mmmm that guitar.
