Prélude et l'improvisation pour guitare et violon (Ibstrat w/Komrade K)

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
This started life when I listened to a couple of Ibstrat (aka Mark) tracks and found I could jam along on the fiddle. I asked Mark if he would be happy for me to duet on one of his tracks and he sent me over a specially arranged version of his Prelude and Jam which gave more space for the fiddle.

That’s about it really except that I recorded the fiddle part back in November last year and what with one thing and another it’s taken me a silly amount of time to do what is quite a simple mix. So thanks to Mark for his patience!

I'm not a jazz fan at all but ...
This is excellent. I love the melancholy intro, and the lightness and ease with which the instruments weave in and out of each other. The mix may have taken a while but it does exactly what it should do, getting the instruments to blend together and stand out from each other at the same time (not an easy thing to get right).

Kudos to Ibstrat ... it's rare to hear an electric guitar played with such skilful poise and delicacy.

Gosh - haven't seen you around these parts in ages! Many thanks for listening. The download has worked for me but it took me 7 attempts to get this track posted in the first place so maybe there's a connection between that and you having download problems?

Great moods
Love how it opens up with the "sad", "longing" beginning, unto a trad jazz walk, the guitar by itself, crescendo. Absolutely stunning performance from both of you, nicely arranged, and a very clean recording.

I LOVE this!
I love the interplay, and the I love the tone and phrasing of the two instruments... Hard to believe you're not in the same room...Nicely mixed, too, and sometimes the simple mixes are hardest, getting 'em to sound like one thing... I'm with Rebsie, enjoying the melancholy intro...

Excellent duet...
As has been said, the opening is special.... full of hope and promise. The jazz lines are nice and precise. Great work! Is this an acoustic violin? If so, what are you micing it with? I'm using a Sterling Audio ST55 on my cello, which works quite well!

Thank you for listening
Actually, I was using a Ted Brewer electric fiddle for this (on account of me working during the day and only being able to record in evening and having no wish to wake the rest of the house not to mention the neighbours...)

When I amplify/record the acoustic fiddle I usually use a Read Instrument Microphone - basically a close microphone which gives very true sound (I suspect that they're only available for fiddles tho')

I wish...
... we had been in the same room, it would have made this a lot easier. When you're working with other musicians it can really help to see what they're doing as well.

Glad you liked it.

Lovely playing guys! A really classy collab - Mark, you sure do know what you are doing on that guitar! Martyn - I think your fiddle part works so well and sounds so good here.

Very nicely done!

You guys should go on tour…
This is fantastic; very soulful intro... the guitar part sounds a bit like Barrios-Mangore, then the more boppy section begins, and it becomes more jazzy. This is a very successful collaboration; I'm thrilled to have heard it! Love it.
