Description
This is another tune that has been MIA here for a couple of years. This, however, is a complete redo of the tune since the original files were lost in the Great Firewire Drive Crash of '06. At the time, it was quite a departure for me in a lot of ways: a very open, simple musical backing, exposed vocals and a very, very personal song. I won't post the original notes I had with the song as they no longer apply, but, needless to say, the song still stirs up a lot of emotion in me and is a tough song to listen to, much less completely redo. But, it's also one of my favorites and I felt I really needed to do this. The MacJams Reunion Fest gave me the excuse I needed to get off my butt and do it.
It's just basically vocals, piano, some strings, a little French horn (not real French horn, unfortunately), and a dash of timpani and cymbal. The song literally came about in the middle of the night back in 2005. I woke up, recorded the basic piano and wrote most of the lyrics. Then, I went back to sleep.
This version isn't exactly the same as the previous. The changes are minor, however, just slight changes in the strings and maybe one or two notes different in the piano part. Mainly due to the fact that I couldn't quite figure out what I did the first time around.
I hope you enjoy this tune. Thanks to Neil for coming up with the idea for the MJRF. It's been a blast and I've enjoyed hearing all the great music from MacJammers old and new.

Lyrics
Warm autumn breeze
blows through the old screen door
But this old home
isn’t quite the same
Familiar sounds
echo through my memories
touching feelings I thought
had died so long ago
I can see your face
as the evening light begins to fade
and I know you wait for me
further down this road home
and I know you wait for me
further down this road home
All I have known
All I have loved
All who have lived
are shadows on the walls
Shadows of our time
Shadows of our fate
Move on down
this cold and lonely road
and I know you wait for me
further down this road home
and I know you wait for me
further down this road home
Cool autumn breeze
sweeps through our memories
the years will pass
but you’ll always be there
I can see you face
as the evening light begins to fade
and I know you wait for me
further down this road home
and I know you wait for me
further down this road home
blows through the old screen door
But this old home
isn’t quite the same
Familiar sounds
echo through my memories
touching feelings I thought
