the deep acoustic strings made a nice soundbed to your
bright piano ..the duet vocals work just amazing ..you
sing amazing together ...very nice linger love song ..

I think
this is a wonderful song ...I do have a crit If I may ...I think the vocals are being lost at points by the wonderful back track . Everything sounds well mixed cept the low end my be a little heavy and the male vocal seems to be "clipping" sometimes as well . Seems like there needs to be more "space" in the song if that makes sense ...im just a home recording dude myself so I cant give to much technical advice but i think what im saying is correct enough :) Ive listened 4 times now and I really dig the emotion and feeling youve put into the song ...The female vocal is passionate and sweet and the instrumentation is beautiful ...Great song !

Thanks for the kind words. You have every right to crit! I've heard some of your stuff and I'd kill for your mastering. I know exactly was you mean by space, too, and the irony is that this song was an attempt to get away from the layered stuff in other songs I've done. Ha... the best laid plans, eh?. If I could get the mix to a place where it's not competing with the vocals, the voices wouldn't have to get so hot. Tell you this much - mixing is friggin' hard. I've messed with this one a million times, and it's still not right! It'll get there, eventually.

Talk about complimentary colors, I love singing with my fiancé. I'd drag her kicking and screaming into every track if it suited it. She's practically bench pressing me on this one. lol

Here is a trick
Sometimes You can do a volume panning over the parts of the music that over power the vocal and Isolate those few spots ....also I think the issue isnt so much a "hot"vocal track as it is maybe your getting to much air in the mic and its over powering the diaphragm...you get like a poof sound and it cut out specially at the end of the song there ....Do you have a "pop" filter in front of your Mic ....there a little pricey like 30-100$ for a good one but they make all the difference with vocals ..I didnt think thed matter but my vocal takes come out 100% better now ...there is a whole lot less distortions or clipping now that I have one .If you dont feel like payin the money for a Pop filter you can always do the Panty hose trick check this out http://www.jakeludington.com/project_studio/20050321_build_your_own_microphone_pop_screen.html

Mixing real instruments is way harder than the stuff I do.... mostly synth and drum machine tracks and loops but there are still elements that grab you by the nuggets like trying to get a good deep bass sound in hiphop and vocal clarity and a general well balanced sound .... Im sure others could guide you with how to get a separated space sound from your music better than I ....If you have a solid "clean" vocal take you shouldnt have to run it hot just multi layer it and play with some compressions ...Hope this helps in some small way on your path to greatness man ...One love .

Wow, what a great voice you have. You really soar on those higher notes. And your fiancée sounds beautifully matched with it ... you're a natural double act.

If I was being a perfectionist, the piano and guitar could maybe use a tiny bit of tightening up in places to get everything crisply sync'd, but it's not really an issue ... this is good stuff.

I'll pass on your compliments to Cherie. I know she'll enjoy them. When things slow down around here, I'd love to rerecord or cheat and splice some of the melodies that are out of sync. My excuse is that I was going for a little bit of "impromptu charm" with some of those imperfections - but I can admit here that is was just me being lazy. :)

Oh Billullo, this is absolutely beautiful! Gorgeous singing on both your parts. I like how the music is a bit dark and mysterious, but then the vocals bring an uplifting tone to it. Very nice!

Thanks so much! I really enjoyed perusing your tunes as well. Sometimes I think the lyrics to most of my stuff tends to be kind of dour, so it's good to know that I can give them a little lift with my singing. I think this tune is about as happy as I get! lol Beyond her singing, you can certainly hear Cherie's "voice" in the writing as well.

You and Benny were right - I had bought a pop guard, but didn't use it. Not too smart. The bad thing about these "pops" is that I tried to EQ them out, but it's one of those things where once it's in the track, you'll never get it out - like red wine on white carpet. although again i'm not sure what the song is about... (Lyrics)... a sense of drama is communicated in the music... nice build... and you have a very good voice... no great voice... emotive with great quality... what did you use to record the acoustic guitar... it sounds a bit covered compared to the rest of your instruments... when you can write and perform as well as you do, we start to nit pik the details...

The guitar
Thanks for your comments, Scott. I recorded the guitar with a condenser mic - nothing too fancy. It's a small classical guitar, so it doesn't have the clarity of the steel string, but maybe I didn't EQ it well enough to get rid of some of the "stuffiness." I'm going to go back in a work with it. Nit away! I welcome it.

Your voice is amazing! My kind of voice, and you are lucky your partner has an equally passionate voice! (I can never sing with my hubby because he can't stay in tune, ha ha...but he plays the piano beautifully!)

Hey estellie! If he can't carry a tune, you can put your hubby on a track... just make sure you have pitch correction turned on. :) I'm pretty shy and nervous about my singing voice, so it always helps my confidence to have people compliment it. Thank you! I'll pass your kind words on to the lady.
