Description
Steve had a good bed. He asked me to join him in it. He had the title Out of Hand, because he didn't have any idea for lyrics. And, I just wrote Love's Out of Hand. Steve Moulton on bass solo. Total time: 2 hours.
Thank you for your song, Steve.
There are two distinct "yous": a past you and one new one. I probably should have written: "Now I've found a new you." Oh, well...

Lyrics
Love's so out of hand
It went awry
I can't understand
When, how or why
I gave it my all
Left nothing out
Didn't stop my fall
Never had doubt
>
You, where are you now
Where were you then
How could I allow
All that had been
You treated me bad
With lying eyes
You were all I had
Love in disguise
>
So what's left for me
Now that you're gone
I finally see
Hope is all done
Love's out of my heart
I've woken up
I've made a new start
No need to stop
>
I'm opening my hand
And my heart too
Now, where do I stand
Now, I've found you

Rockin' the bed!
Hehehe... this is great, totally unexpected bed to find somebody like Char singing in. Steve, you laid it down well, this reminds me of some lost early Aerosmith song. Char, you are doing fine, and having fun, I can tell!

We didn't need
no stinkin' covers. Steve had this rocking music sitting around. It "was fun" to write to it, but he was supposed to sing it. It was a surprise when I saw the email asking when I was going to post. Thanks for giving it a listen. :)

Hi Karen,
I am so happy you think so. Did you hear that, Steve? Karen thinks you play well, too. Strange bedfellows, maybe. It is nice that Steve let me write for his music. I was a bit surprised that it is me singing it though. I will get used to it, after a while. Thanks so much for stopping in. :)

kick ass!
A great big slab of rock - nice work lady. I vocal sounds a bit to prominant to me, as if it doesn't quite sit with the track - nothing major, may just need a touch of reverb or eq.

I don't know what
I'm doing, and I mentioned that I sounded too loud but he told me he likes the lo-fi sound. He can mess with all the stuff I haven't a clue about and I hope he posts that somewhere where people don't know me and can be objective about the finished sound. Thank you for the critique. I appreciate your close listen. I'd like to be able to "wail". Thank you.:)

I am,
by no stretch, confident. I am getting more comfortable with hearing myself; though wet behind the ears...hanging out to dry. Steve's song was well played. He has been playing it with his "full of Steve's band". A nice, finished piece of rock which really didn't me at all. Thank you very much. :)

Gee,
thanks Anthony. Musichead plays lead. His bandmate, Steve Moulton, did the solo. There was something at the beginning I wasn't happy with and Steve cut it and then he played with the last lines... a couple minutes before I posted. I didn't hear this version until a few others listened. That does sound "rad." Now, if someone can make me sound like Grace Slick, that'd be great. Thank you. :)

I remember this bed ..

.. vocals sit well with this. In context I think you add a kinda Stevie Nicks kinda vibe to this Charlene .. but the bed is much more rock/bluesy pull to it .. like earlier Aerosmith as Eduard suggested. The combination works of those kinda styles works well. My only nit is the vocal FXs/procution .. more noticeable at the end when they are on their own .. you sound kinda distant, kinda singing through a slight megaphone .. not sure if that was the intention. Might be room ambience from recording .. hmm .. what do you use for a mic?

Overall an excellent piece .. the sound to me gives me an impression of large, manual labourers, tired but soldiering on with their relentless daily toil.

Char said 210 days ago (April 11th, 2009)
You remember it!
Alan, you know what you're doing. Stevie Nicks is a great compliment.
I think Steve made it sound like an echo...I have no idea how he did that... for fun. I am still using the webcam mic. "Large manual laborers"(?!!)... I could use a few of them around here! There is some frustration. Musichead had called this "out of hand". Thanks for listening. I so appreciate that. :)

A couple minutes
before I posted, musichead put an echo on the last lines. He told me he did it. Sent me the mp3. I posted. Poor thing had the song ready to go from 10:00AM, but I didn't know until I opened an email at 9:30PM. I heard it. I tried to send a second take. While I was doing that, Steve played with the first one. Without hearing it, it went up. Yeah, just a microsoft web cam mic that the cat knocked down a dozen times, already. Only thing I ever got that is resilient enough to survive all the abuse. Great playing. Thank you. :)

I write fast, all the time. One line and all the rest follow. This music was so quick and penetrating that It needed those staccato words. I've heard other people here sing fast and it amazes me. A pinch of Char...
I love your tonal inflections and how you bake the crap out of a song and until it's notches above, just right, Char! You seem to have a knack for adding the flavor, "mighty" in musical pieces that are seemingly, born to be of a consolidated effort... That's not a small ingredient, ya know...

Though, the basics for a successful "dish" are present here, Mr. mH. You've created something pretty special and furthest away from, just palatable. I'm thinkn', this be the entree that makes ya wanna have more so, I'll be taking one to go! Thanks for the traveler, both yas!

So, Dion...
You have been a totally charming commenter. Do you sweet talk all the ladies?
I was not going to do anything more than just write the lyrics. This had been just a demo for Steve, for melody. I can't be sloppy with these things because the guys use them. I can make you up some more parcels to take home. So cute! Yeah, I thought the guitar was screaming. I so wanted to vocalize in that solo, but I've learned solos are sacrosanct. Learning a lot here. Thank you for all your kindness. :)

first
She did on the first take,,,she had no idea that I was going to use her version. I just spent time working on the production. No fx on her voice. Just at the very end. Then I used delay and phasing.
This is one of my songs that I really needed help. I asked Charlene if she wanted to write for the song. I then stepped away from it thinking it will be a few days. But in was 20 mins. When she said she wanted to sing a rock song. I thought here it is!! This vocal take just may be the first take. Im not sure. But I wanted it to sound like she was in the room with the band.

Oh, I want
to rock. I've been singing along with all the rock songs and writing for those instrumental only rock songs .. all of them that I liked... since I came here. This was the first take and was only to give Steve an idea. I sent another version but he was tweaking this one and he had waited all day for me to respond, so I posted it without even hearing it until several others had done so. I want to get wild and have more fun. Maybe, I'll get better. Thanks, Neil. Big hug to Steve. He made it happen. :)

well, your song was trippy for me. it had that "flavor" - hard to describe. your singing voice is perfect for this tune, and it reminded me of those good old days.

i was 14-15 back then - i guess i was a bit more innocent than you, eh? :)

Ah well,
Russ, such is life. It might not be what we thought it would be but there could be some nice surprises around the bend. I sure hope there are some. I liked Steve's piece. The lyrics wrote themselves. He could have sung them. But, I'm happy he let me. I'm grateful for the encouragement. Thanks.

Killer vibrato and GRIT. The whole package oozes strung-out sensibility; and that guitar at the 2:40 mark put me in mind of Buck Dharma stepping up for an 8 minute solo!

He never slows down. And he makes split second decisions. I have to be careful what I send to him. If he had posted on his page, it would've been a shock. As it was, I didn't hear it until quite a few others had been here first. He did right by me. He has great instincts. Thank you so much. :)

I just did this in one shot.
I sent the lyrics for his vocal. He said, "Sing it." And voila! I am no musician. I hear the improvements in different versions of the same song. But I usually am very clumsy at suggesting changes. I have felt out of place when I have done so. If you say so, I think you must be correct. So, for the next version he will consider that. Thank you for your careful listen and your time, Anne. Thanks. :)

Tight, tight, tight.
This has the same kind of aesthetic I used to feel coming out of Pere Ubu, although I can't find a suitable female vocalist to compare you to, Char. Guitar-wise, I'd give a to-be-determined number of hours of my life to live in the place that brought us that little angular chord patch after the verses. Tight-fitting structure and arrangement for a song that deserves. I LOVE the little "bellish" tone before the verses start.

One possible bit of crit on the vox: no need to adhere quite so slavishly to the meter--I'd like a few conversational or improv pacings on some lyric lines. I only say this because I dont' want to be a blubbering fanboy in the event that you want to hear something of a critical nature. Nice spooky tune, thanks!

Bob,
I have no idea what I'm doing. What you heard here was my singing my lyrics as a demo for Steve to then sing. I was not supposed to be the one singing. He decided to use my one take and told me to post it. I understand the crit. And, from now on, when I send anything I'll try to sing as well as I can. It has all been a dream. Thanks.

Don't know what you're doing?
You're doing better than most who claim they do. Your voice is strong and very sure of itself, and it dances with the music with an effortless ease that's a joy to listen to. There's a clarity to your tone that I just love; and yeah, that vibrato just sends it.

No gimmicks, no packaging, no empty hustle - just a strong, sweet voice soaring over a smokey, bar-room guitar lazily loping over thumping bassline. Love it.
