shreveport stomp - gennet version 1924

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
written by Jelly roll Morton.

this was played from the actual transcript that was taken from the version he recorded for the Gennett label in 1924. As I have said many times I have always admired this composition ever since I first heard it when I was in my early twenties.

thanx muchly
this has been my practice piece for years now, mainly because it's my favourite rag but I've only recently managed to get the exact piano transcripion. It claims to even have the mistakes though I wasn't aware of any.

Hello Wendy
thank you for listening - bit of a frosty reception for this one I'm afraid.

Holy Cow!
I had a uncle that played like this, not as well, honestly. I would listen to him for hours or as long as he would play. Mighty Fine playing sir, Loved it. Thanks for letting me take it with me.

thanx
I love playing this stuff but it seems to be out of favour now - Joplin seems to be the flavour of the week now for some reason - i suppose it's prettier than Morton but I always prefered Jelly roll Morton. -More fire !!!

Sorry I'm late John
Great to see you back.
On a diet at the moment - any mention of jelly or roll will definitely get my attention.
Wonderful playing - reminds me of the old b/w films - you are a master.
Cheers
Len

it's me who -
should be saying sorry - How is it going? - the diet I mean - I went on one about three years ago and lost about two stone which I have managed to keep off.

Thanks for visiting here - I found this style much more difficult to play that boogie, it's so old fashioned but I love it.

John.

A Tasty Jelly Roll
John, you just amaze. It's not that you hit all the right notes it's how much you understand the music and replicate the feeling and emotion.

I dare say Jelly Roll would have been proud of your version.
