Description
This is just something I'm throwing up here since it's been a while since I posted something. Jazz genre, I guess, but I think it's sort of pseudo jazz. I got EZ Drummer's Jazz Expansion Pack and threw this together. That said I really like the samples from Studs Terkel, which fits into a theme of things I've done recently, but this time it's more of a straightforward Weather Report sort of fusion jazz thing, with only the curve-ball of the dobro thrown in there. That's Tennessee Willliams talking with Studs this time, courtesy of NPR. I finally figured out that I should have an album called ambient talking.

I'm an incomplete people my ownself
I have respect for artists like you who step out of their comfort zone and take chances. This is very creative and compelling. I think the track works great with the NPR conversation. Nice tones, hip track, great job of working in the dobro such that it fits perfectly here.

Creative work indeed
You really need to know it's a dobro used here - good work. Fine bass and Ezdrummer sounds quite good with brushes - it's my favorite drum software, I'll have to try those. . .

A jazzy conversation.

Thanks !

This
is really quite compelling. I couldn't stop listening to the voices. I couldn't tell Stud's voice--I assume he was a young man when he did the interview. Just the quality of the voices, even more than the content, which is intriguing in itself. The music is perfect! It makes me tilt my head and say,"What's going on and what is this really about?" Which is great! Excellent offering!

Studs
Studs is the first voice you hear and Tennessee Williams is the more tired sounding voice with the southern inflection to it. For some reason, the bounce of this file got cut off in the beginning, so this is not exactly the whole song as I intended, and it was supposed to start with a little clip from Tennessee at the beginning. Since the music sort of noodles around and that same clip occurs later on in the song, I figured it was okay like this but the whole thing starts out a bit more abruptly than I intended. Since I've gotten such nice comments I figure rather than delete this file and re-upload, I'll just keep this one up here on MacJams. I think this interview was done in the early to mid sixties and I found it on NPR.
Thanks for the comment!

ambient talking
A wonderful idea Jim, and I think you just wrote the title track :-) Very free form, and the scratchy audio just adds to the sense you're listening to something from another era/dimension. So was the dobro the only guitar? you have some wild phased sounding guitar work that really makes the piece. The phased rhodes was also choice.

at the end i thought it might just start to spin in a whole 'notha direction with that B3 sound startin to gel.

other tracks on the album
This is probably a good start for this album which will also include: http://www.macjams.com/song/52173
http://www.macjams.com/song/47555
and then I'll churn out a few more. I like these since they have specific meanings but I can concentrate on the music.
The scratchy audio is actually a Logic Sculpture synth track that is parts of the MIDI of the drum track re-assigned.

People who have to fight for their own reason.... this is really cool. the dialogue is so interesting that I forget that I am listening to a musical track. nicely done. like the not to Weather Report.... big influence of mine.

Awww!
And you play sax, don't you?!?!? I was looking for some Wayne Shorter type of riffing on this and just ended up settling for playing a bit of organ. Care to collab on some nodding to Weather Report? And you have also posted some ambient talking stuff, so maybe we should put our heads together. Might be kindred spirits. Thanks for listening!

cool
was a little confused by the genre (before i listened). this is kind of psych for me. glad to see you posting. this is really cool on all levels, the guitars and keys are great, and the drums: dude, I really need to buy that kit. you sound like mitch mitchell. come to think of it, this could have been a hendrix track (maybe it was intended to go right before "spanish castle magic." great track.

Thanks!
Yeah, I've been working so much that I took a break and wandered into Guitar Center thinking, "what can I buy today" to reward myself and since they had that Jazz expansion kit on display just grabbed it on a whim. Very pleased once I got it installed. It's got a cool wooden shell vintage snare that is just is sooo cool and the mapping works with all the other kits wonderfully. Yeah, it's not really jazz, but close enough for jazz, as I always used to say about my tuning...hehehe

So Cool
Love the beatnik vibe and the jazz drums. I must get a drum program, sounds like EZ Drummer is a good candidate. Also a big fan of Weather Report. I agree with michael2 about the Hendrix feel, reminds me of his song Rainy Day that I am doing a cover of.

I'm snappin' my jazz-hand fangers for ya.
Interesting digi-click underneath, and a nice, clear spoken track. You deserve a little "pseudo-jazz" cred just for your content choices and sensitivity/sensibility in mixing this soup up so well. Besides: Studs is dead; long live Studs! Saw him speak live a few years back, and he signed a book for me. He was just such a good soul even or especially in his decline.
