Description
Dark ambient, actually. This is not likely to leave you feeling warm and fuzzy. This has been ready for awhile, but I debated whether or not to post it. It's really unlike the happy go lucky, upbeat guy I am in real life (buuahhh ha ha). But here goes.

Based around several samples I nabbed from Freesound, where, evidently, dark souls abound. Not to worry. You will not be subjected to subliminal satanic propaganda ... not much, anyway. I'm not actually a satanist, in spite of possible rumors to the contrary. The spoken voice is the first few lines from Julius Caesar's De Bello Gallico, in Latin, repeated. Enjoy!

love the image
pray tell, yours? Enjoyed, everything. Samples work well against that gothic soundtrack, what a ride.

The image ...
well, OK, I had a rough night and snapped this picture of myself reflected in the bathroom mirror. After a bit of work I ended up looking like my usual stunning self. Thanks for giving this a listen, Steve.

Got me scared...
Music for Doom II. I did something similar, "Dead Simple" a while back, but this is much better. I like the way you have blended the samples with the Zebra sounds. Excellent stuff, as ever.

The sound of Doom
Ah, yes, I know these games. I tried a bit of Doom 3. Sweaty palm time. I listened to Dead Simple (title reminds me of one of my favorite movies Blood Simple) and I thought the bass tones were handled quite masterfully. I enjoyed it much. I suppose that opinions of this darker music is highly mood dependent. It's not easy for it to resonate unless the scene is set properly. I gave it a shot.

Hi Duane......
This is a well put together group of loops/samples. The subject matter of the samples is apt with the overall feel/atmosphere of the piece being somewhat of a cinematic backdrop.

Production and additional sounds excellent too.

Take care.

Hi Paul
I was wondering what you might think of this darker stuff. I guess it's natural for this kind of music to trigger memories of scary movies or novels. I wonder if you think that all music must be associated with visual images, or can it stand alone? And, as always, thanks for your kind support.

excellent
i really like this a lot. i love the darker, melancholy, scarey side of things and this is definitely something I would listen to in the car late at night. maybe we should get together a MJ challenge for a thriller soundtrack. this is great man.

Yes, I noticed that about you recently
In a way, your recent post helped me to decide to post this. I've done a few of these, twice on challenges from relatives to "do somethings scary" but this is the first time I've posted. It seems like there's very little dark ambient here. I like your MJ Challenge idea. Thanks for the comments.

A convincing atmosphere!
Lots of sounds packed into this... Lots of little blips of this and that. So interesting to imagine a human mind arriving at innumerable milestones. 2:43 was the high point for me, with a blare of cold color. Then the eastern-sounding voices arrived. Nice touch. I'm especially glad that you ended it softly. I got some chills. Thanks for sharing. :D

oh, the gaul of some people...
"All Gaul is divided into three parts..." that's all I know. But I don't need a translation of this... very nice dark atmospheric piece... if you replaced the echoey menacing voice with a high backwards-choir, this would pass for Christopher Franke... (not that I suggest you do, just some high praise) nice layers of foreboding. I've never heard a half-step down seem like such a long drop :-)

"...one of which
the Belgae inhabit, the Aquitani another, those who in their own language are called Celts, in our Gauls, the third." Not all that catchy, actually. I much prefer Gibbon's opening to The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (which I have yet to get through). My musical background is so limited. I will hunt down Franke and give him a listen. Thanks!

On Chris Franke
I thought I'll tell you that Franke was a member of Tangerine Dream betwwen 1971 and 1988. Alas my discography of all things TD fail me, only Pacific Coast Highway of 1991 and soundtrack McBain 1991 is mentioned, while I've got The Celestine Prophecy - A Musical Voyage (A New Age thingy from 1996) in my iTunes playlist and at least part of The London Concert of 1993 on an old casette tape. Most famous probably because of soundtracks to the Babylon 5 TV-series (which I haven't seen much). Maybe that is what Eduard is getting at, because the stuff I've heard is nice and sweet and not quite as dark as this. Website on http://christopherfranke.com/

Yeah well, good scary stuff this! People seem to be fairly easily frightened on this site, but now you're talking. Uh, sleep well?!

they come again
it is night. it is always night now. the last raid exploded the power station. the enemy is closer now. the cold night breathes heavy mist under the skin. the darkness manifests visions of chilled beauty. the enemy is close now. the defenses will hold. hide in the darkness, it is the strategy. the enemy... is lost. no sign. no. the enemy voice is heard again, he returns. the enemy, is in the mind. 0x0

I can see...
...why you liked my "Locust Storm." THIS is awesome. Your mix of various elements is really wonderful and you have somehow created a creepy storyline along the way. I don't know what that is, exactly, but it's making my speakers rumble! (Unlike Eduard, I translated the ENTIRE "Caesar's Gallic Wars" as a school kid. Interesting that you would choose it as an allusion.)... The "atmospheric" winds at the end are very cool...but let them fade gently into nothing. I enjoyed this.
Peace.

Fear...no kidding!
wowza...incredible, really, incredible use of those vocal samples. what is absolutely stunning about this piece is the panning you've done, creating a total 360 degree listening experience in my headphones. the voices and sounds are swirling around me. it's incredible. too bad I scare easily or I would download this for many many future listens. but if i wasn't scared of the dark before, i am now! brilliantly done. a track to be proud of for sure.

360?
Wow, those are some kinda headphones. I wonder if there's a way to make it so the sound source seems to originate from behind your head. I can make things sound like they're almost straight up, straight ahead, or left and right. But not straight down or anywhere behind you. I wonder why that is. Anyway, thanks much Kassia. Always an honor to have you comment on my little experiments. Scared of the dark? Haha. Better go read your description to Into the Tunnel again..

Yup, dark for sure
Almost could be part of a Myst Soundtrack. Very cool in headphones. There is such a range of creepy and abrasive sounds that worm their way under my skin. Very effective use of the sound palette to make for an uneasiness that morphs this way and that but just won't go away.

A dload for sure.

Doug
PS - I know what you mean about uploading dark pieces when it is not who you normally are.

I had Pandora playing
and then I played this. They are cool together. You are THE coolest musician magician here. I fell in love with your stuff since I first chanced upon MJ. Almost two years of indefinable, exemplary compositions. Many re-listens. I can hear the threat of something wicked, but there is still so much beauty. Wow. Thanks.
