Skillful playing! Thanks.The guitar is an old Alvarez nylon string (1970) that my father had in his music store. I sort of permanently 'borrowed' it from him in high school. I have two mics--a Fender and a Sennheiser. Not sure which I used on this piece. Neither mic is very good, the Fender can be kind of bassy. Very tasty I like the third movement the best. But the entire Suite is real sweet. Have you ever listened to Andrew York? He is a member of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and a composer. Classically oriented but his compositions go beyond "classical." You might enjoy him. Oh, and you're into January so you might have to revise the title. :-) Check out my latest song called I Just Wanna Go Home

Beautiful Beautiful piece, my only complaint if any is that I didn't feel that you got the best sound out of your guitar. The recording seemed a little too bass friendly and didn't do it's best to bring out the beautiful timbre of you guitar. Check out my latest song called Vickys Song

Nice Love those dropped d tunnings:) Liked that harmonic at the end. Loved those sliding double notes. Lots of expression. Fine, Fine, Fine Good stuff Maynard.....so many interesting little things going on....I like the fading chord in the midlle that you subtly bend just before it fades out...nice touch.......missed the trills in the intro but I still heard them in my mind...my only nit.......love the subtle suggestions of India in there-again just enough.....also love some of the bass notes you chose to combine with melody notes,,,that gave those passages a big feel...nice....OK Im totally jealous! |

beautiful playing This piece has a beautiful flow. I'm curious, did you record this in one take? Someone had a nice comment on missed notes, and man, that's the beauty of guitar - it's so expressive in the right hands, like singing or speaking - too sterile if too perfect. Keep it up. imaginative fingerwork You provide a lot of harmonic and melodic interest with your excellent placement of notes on this tune. The chord progressions are nice. There are some good melodic bits, but they need to be developed a bit more to pull the piece together, make it more "identifiable" and distinctive. I would have enjoyed hearing a more extended version of this piece. The recording sounded slightly muffled and far away; your excellent guitar playing is not shown to its best advantage, but overall, this is a very pleasant track. The chord progressions and general treatment don't really reflect the classical genre; this might fit better in the New Age/Acoustic category. Check out my latest song called EPONYM

Another Good One Beautiful guitar piece. Have you been playing these for years or did you just recently write them? They sound like you have been playing them for years. Again so clean and precise and melodic. My playing is like a bull in a china shop in comparison. Loved that part towards the end where it sounded like you were sliding triads back and forth. alliteration Beautiful, mellow, moody music makes me marvel. At your talent. I learned today that your dad had a music store, which explains where that amazing talent comes from, and that you must have a very large closet, since you played guitar in there. To go back to the composition, it's pretty much perfect. The fact that you don't modulate does not disturb me at all. The only thing that disturbs me is the thought that maybe you're not making music any more, since you've stopped posting here. Come back, Tom! We hardly knew ye!
